I don’t know about you, but I just realized Christmas is only 10 days away and, I am so not ready! Still have gifts to buy, gifts to wrap, cookies to make, menus to select for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day … surely I’m forgetting some other big task.
I think it’s time for a simpler, stress-free holiday this year. I say that every year, but this year I mean it! Remind me PLEASE, if you see me freaking out over not having made every-one’s favorite cookie, thinking I need to make another salad out of fear that I won’t have enough food, and sending my husband to the liquor store for 12 more bottles of wine. What’s up with that?
I’ve found one simple solution this year: I don’t have to do it all! I can make one thing (ok, maybe a few things), buy others, and accept my families offer to bring appetizers, salads, and their favorite cookies. So, here’s how the cookie dilemma is getting solved:
Me: Make 6 dozen cut-out sugar cookies, decorated of course. Swap 2 dozen with my sister Jill for 2 dozen of her amazing Peanut Blossom cookies. My daughter-in-law; Megan, is bringing homemade Krumkake from a long time family recipe in her family. Yum, can’t wait! My mother-in-law is bringing Rosette’s (every-one’s favorite) from her tried and true bakery. Mr. Wonderful (my husband) is making his famous triple chocolate fudge recipe. Sounds like a beautiful Christmas cookie platter to me! And, I only had to make 1 type of cookie – even better!
That means I can head off to finish my gift buying and start thinking about my holiday menus. Too fun!
