Are you looking for a way to give back to your community this holiday season? Why not adopt my Tastebud friend Suzanne’s amazing idea of throwing a holiday Party with a Purpose!
“A fun way to throw a party with some friends is to have a purpose in mind. About six years ago a neighbor and I decided we wanted to have a party but there was no good reason why… no holidays approaching, no graduations, birthdays or any other good purposeful reason. So we decided to create an excuse and call it “Party with a Purpose.”
The purpose was for a charity. Our first goal was to pick a local charity that most people were unfamiliar with in the community. Our second goal was to pick a charity in which they could not only use monetary donations but also supplies or gifts that our friends attending the party could easily afford and purchase.
The party was a huge success! My friend and I decided we would supply all of the food and beverages but our only request was that our friends bring a donation for the charity we chose. Our guests really got excited about giving their donations. We wanted to invite as many people as we could so that the charity was able to receive more donations.
The food was heavy appetizers with desserts and beverages included beer, wine and a small cocktail selection. Not only was the party fun but it served a great “purpose.” Since then we annually host this party and each year our guests anxiously await the date of the party. Everyone wants to make sure they can attend.
Each year we try to expand our guest lists so that it can be an even bigger success. Now we just need a bigger house to host the event. My friend and I have fun researching the charity, planning the menu since we like to change it each year, preparing the food and creating the invitation poem each year. The best part of the party is being able to drop off the donation and know we served a “purpose.”
This year’s invitation poem:
Party with a Purpose
Why not have some fun,
and also get a good deed done?
It’s for a good cause, much in need,
These children need some books to read.
Come to the party with a book or two,
It would be best if they were new.
We’ll provide all the drinks and food,
And all will be in a great mood.
Saturday, November 18th,
xxx Drive, Mt. Pleasant, SC
Hosted by: Suzanne & Stephanie
All donations are going to The Imagination Library
Is that not a great idea?! This time of year there are so many great charities to donate to, but how do you choose one and know if it’s legit. Here are a couple of website to help you research and select a charity: http://www.charitynavigator.org/ or: http://www.charitywatch.org/aboutaip.html All the best as you celebrate this giving season!
