Looking for a new idea for Mother’s Day! Why not surprise your mom by preparing her favorite meal or signature dishes. Trust me, she’ll be thrilled that you remembered and went out of your way to prepare them!
My family recipes and cooking style had a significant influence in defining my culinary palate. So this year in memory of my mom I’m going to prepare her classic Sunday Pot Roast! All I have to do is say Pot Roast and I can see my mom’s blue dutch oven, smell those great aromas, and taste that infamous rich, savory flavor that you only get from a pot roast… Yum, can’t wait!
The menu: Mom’s Classic Sunday Pot Roast, roasted potatoes and root vegetables, mixed greens salad with a simple vinaigrette. She wasn’t much of a dessert gal, but she did like a glass of Drambuie on the rocks to “settle her stomach”…
We’ll honor my mother-in-law on Sunday by also preparing her favorite dishes. She loves grilled pork chops or burgers. This year she chose burgers! What she doesn’t know is we’re going to surprise her with some of herv favorite salads and desserts as well. I can’t divulge too much as she may be reading this post! Stay tuned for the menu and photos.
Happy Mother’s Day!
“When I walk into my kitchen today, I am not alone. Whether we know it or not, none of us is. We bring fathers and mothers and kitchen tables, and every meal we’ve ever eaten. Food is never just food. It’s also a way of getting at something else: who we are, who we have been, and who we want to be.” Molly Wizenberg, author of A Homemade Life: Stories and Recipes from My Kitchen
